Pigeonholed (2016)
Catalogue to accompany Kurt Jackson's 2016 solo exhibition/charity auction Pigeonholed at the Guardian Building, Kings Place, London and his 2018 Pigeonholed exhibition at the Jackson Foundation, Cornwall.
Under the title ‘Pigeonholed,’ Kurt has conceived a series of works that reveal aspects of experience of the prisoner of conscience - of solitude, of despair, of loneliness, but for the most part, of desire for and experience of peace and freedom, of being reunited with family and friends, of messages sent, whether actual or imagined, symbolised in carrier pigeons and doves of peace.
"This book is one element of a wonderful collaboration between Jackson and the writers who have so kindly given their time and talents to support the important work of Prisoners of Conscience.
An idea began to form and after some very positive communications with Kurt and his wife Caroline in the spring of 2015, when we talked about the possibility of Kurt donating a piece of his work to be sold at auction to raise money for the Prisoners of Conscience Appeal Fund. I thought we might create, too, a book that would contain pieces of writing on the subject of prisoners of conscience, along the lines of ‘Place’. In a swift, and to me instinctively enthusiastic response, Kurt and Caroline not only agreed to my request, but suggested that Kurt could create a whole series of new works very specifically for Prisoners of Conscience, some to be auctioned and some for sale.
Whilst I stand to be corrected, I believe that this immensely generous gesture on their part may be the first of its kind by an artist toward a charity and I cannot personally thank both Kurt and Caroline enough for all that they have done on behalf of Prisoners of Conscience and its beneficiaries."
